The Artists

Huguette Gabrial, born in Egypt, emigrated initially to Cyprus, subsequently to France and ultimately after having visited Montreal during the 1976 Olympics, elected in 1978 to emigrate to Canada.

About fifteen years ago after starting to work out of a home-based office she decided to take advantage of the attendant flexibility and, prompted by a long- standing interest in art, enrolled in courses offered by local artists, studying initially under the tutelage of Shirley Katz and others at the Saidye Bronfman Art Centre, subsequently under the direction of Helmut Gerth at the Pointe Claire Cultural Centre and currently under the guidance of Norma Walker and now under the guidance of Beverley Wight.

Her interests have evolved from still-life pastels and live-model drawing to her current interest and preoccupation, under the continued direction of Beverley Wight, with the watercolour medium focused principally on still-life and landscapes subjects as well as a recent initiative involving experimentation with the acrylic medium.
